High Definition Biofabrication: The doorway to the future of medicine. From organ-on-chip towards advanced medical devices.

The present project covers acquisition of high definition bioprinting technology (multiphoton lithography). This technology enables a better mimic of the natural microcellular environment, and is especially essential for the generation of organ-on-chip technology. In this respect, the present project aims to develop the first truly functional cornea-on-chip for drug screening applications as a stepping stone towards other promising organ-on-chip tissue types. Besides this research project, the equipment also allows for short term collaborations with industry towards the development of hair growth scaffolds, custom organ-on-chips, smart patient-specific intraocular lenses and aid in the development of commercial bioinks. Apart from these near future industrial collaborations, it is anticipated that the equipment will also be a gateway towards more in depth collaborations aiding to generate the next generation (bio)fabrication market.
