The response strategies of sectors and companies in Flanders to the decline and recovery of the labor volume as a result of the corona crisis.

In view of the corona crisis and its impact on the labor market, it is important – both in times of crisis and in times of recovery – to gain a good understanding of the impact of temporary crisis measures and of the pace, size and differentiation between sectors. with which the recovery continues. To this end, it is necessary to closely monitor companies' responsiveness and adjustment strategies in the labor market.

Many aspects of this have already been analyzed or documented, but these studies lack uniformity in terms of source use and perspectives. This research aims at a coherent analysis of the inter- and intra-sectoral differences and business strategies, from both quantitative and qualitative sources.

The research is divided into three parts:

A broad exploratory quantitative study of the real impact on the employment and job mobility of employees. The analysis looks at jobs, labor volume, flexi-jobs, temporary employment, and temporary unemployment. The trends in sectors, companies and employees are analysed.
An explanatory quantitative study on the use, duration and determinants of temporary unemployment
An explanatory qualitative research into different strategies in sectors and companies. The reasons, considerations, bottlenecks and solutions surrounding the various measures are being surveyed at sectors and companies, with a focus on training processes and reallocation of employees to temporary unemployment.
