Books Δ-Ζ of the Florilegium Coislinianum

Book - Dissertation

The present dissertation offers for the first time the critical edition of books Δ-Ζ of the monumental compilation known as the Florilegium Coislinianum (9th-10th century). The original exemplar of this alphabetical anthology is today lost, but its text can be reconstructed on the basis of ca. 30 manuscripts that transmit the work in full or part and represent three different recensions of the anthology. The critical edition contains a set of apparatuses that aim to record the variant readings of each witness of the Flor. Coisl. while comparing the Coislin version with that of the source texts and previous anthologies the compiler of the Flor. Coisl. can have used as sources (e.g. Sacra Parallela, Corpus Parisinum). The introductory study that accompanies the critical edition explores different aspects of the work such as origins, functions and structure. It also offers a detail philological study of the relation between the manuscripts that transmit the Flor. Coisl. Special attention is paid to the analysis of younger anthologies (the so-called 'supplementary witnesses') that used exemplars of the Flor. Coisl. as one of their several sources (e.g. the Florilegium Hierosolymitanum, the Anthologia Parisina).
