Research into the Relations between Muslims and Christians in the Contemporary period (1960-present)

The complex relationships between Muslims and Christians in the last decades of the twentieth century and first decades of the twenty-first century are analysed, with the focus on the following: 1) the dialogue initiatives developed by the Holy See after the Second Vatican Council document Nostra Aetate (1965) and the World Day of Prayer for Peace in Assisi (1986); 2) the perception of and response to these initiatives in the Islamic world (specifically by the Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt); 3) the impact of historical conflicts and Islamic-Christian contacts on the perception in Islamic cultures of the Christian and secular West.
