Investigation into novel technology for welfare monitoring of poultry

Welfare and wellbeing of laying hens in commercial farming industry is compromised by a multitude of factors. Poultry, compared to other livestock, are housed together with 1000 to more than 10.000 individuals. This poses a challenge to the use of welfare monitoring - and sensing technology in commercial laying units. Therefore, using novel technologies to monitor health and behaviour is of great importance. Together with this emerging need for welfare monitoring comes an opportunity for novel technologies to be incorporated in the poultry housing system.
