The Regularisation of residence rights of UK nationals living in the EU after Brexit

The doctorate will examine and compare the approaches taken by two Member States (provisionally France and Germany) in relation to the application of Article 18(1) of the UK Withdrawal Agreement and UK nationals’ rights of residence. The research will focus on practical issues linked to establishing residence, the impact of the withdrawal of rights and on the approach taken by the national administration. This practical, research-based examination will be set in a wider framework that considers (a) the application and enforcement of EU law at national level (b) the fundamental rights impact of the removal of EU citizenship; and (c) institutional reaction vis-a-vis the changed regime of rights.
