Aural Architecture and its Phenomenological Roots

Book Contribution - Chapter

This research into the sound aura is situated within a wider framework concerned with the relevance of phenomenology for contemporary developments in architectural theory and design practice. Phenomenology has a high relevance for the still-young development of aural architecture. It shows its relevance in two ways: first, concerning theoretical grounding, and second, concerning the hermeneutics of certain buildings from both the past and the present. This text outlines these domains, defines the basic argument, and opens perspectives for further research.
