Supporting Women in the Refugee/IDP Camps in South Sudan: A Diaconal, Pastoral and Theological Perspective on Post-Traumatic Stress and Ownership

The civil war in South Sudan made many victims who lost their lives and even more victims who are displaced. In the refugee camps of South Sudan, women refugees have een abused before, during, or after war, and as a result are suffering from post-traumatic stress. With the support of international and religious organisations , they are taking ownership of their lives and carry major responsibilities for their families. Women refugees are rebuilding communities and become peace builders. The main part of this research is to reflect theologically on post-traumatic stress and healing. Building on this theological foundation, our aim is to propose a diaconal and pastoral care model which will support women refugees in healing, developing ownership and building peace in their communities.
