Undoubtedly, additive manufacturing is currently a highly researched topic and compared to
conventional manufacturing techniques it has many advantages. Where the mechanical properties such as strength
and stiffness are comparable to the conventional material, the fatigue properties remain inferior. Nevertheless, AM
offers other interesting possibilities like for instance the integration of a Structural Health Monitoring system.
