In order to comply with WHO guidelines for arsenic concentrations (< 10 µg/L) in the drinking water of the communities around the Poopó lake in Bolivia, three objectives are stated: (1) prevent human diseases associated with high arsenic levels in the drinking water consumed by the rural communities, (2) select an appropriate arsenic removal method incorporating feedback from the communities (3) fortify the capacity of the local NGO to conduct research related to water quality issues by building local expertise and expanding the in-house laboratory
