Self-powered SIMPLE chip for CKD diagnosis and monitoring using the POC Creasensor

Book Contribution - Book Chapter Conference Contribution

Here, we present the CreaSensor, true point-of-care (POC) biosensor for detection of creatinine in blood plasma, known as biomarker of chronic kidney disease (CKD). CreaSensor combines SIMPLE technology, a powerful microfluidics tool that requires no external power for activation or liquid manipulation, with a colorimetric read-out and an enzymatic bio-assay. Using the CreaSensor, we detected clinically relevant creatinine concentrations in only 5 µL of plasma within 5 min (LOD 0.76 mg/dL). Moreover, the CreaSensor showed excellent ICC of 0.97 with reference values in single blind study and had similar analytical performance as standard methods for creatinine detection.
