16th International Symposium on Electrets: Book of Abstracts

Book - Book

KU Leuven was the venue of the recent 16th International Symposium on Electrets (ISE16) that was held from September 4th till September 8th, 2017. This year, ISE16 celebrates the 50th anniversary of a continuous series of successful international meetings dedicated to research on Electret science that started in Chicago in October 1967. Electrets and related phenomena continue to receive much interest from both fundamental and applied points of view. Electrets are dielectric materials that have a quasi-permanent electric charge or dipole polarization. Electrets can be considered the complement to magnets, since they the source of a “permanent” electric field giving rise to piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity and ferroelectricity. Like previous editions, the ISE16 was the meeting place for scientists and engineers from all over the world working in the field of electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, condensed matter physics and chemistry, and a chance for communicating about recent advances and research and development efforts in these areas. Selected conference topics were: • Charge storage and conduction phenomena in dielectrics • Soft transducers: sensors and actuators, including dielectric elastomers • Piezoelectric, pyroelectric and ferroelectric materials • Energy harvesting • Ferroelectric polymers in flexible organic electronics • Thermally stimulated phenomena, dielectric relaxation spectroscopy This year, we could welcome 100 participants from 24 countries to the symposium, who gave 110 (invited) oral or poster presentations during four conference days. Following the symposium, a tutorial based workshop “Ferroelectric polymers for flexible electronics” was held on Sept. 7/8 comprising of four tutorial lectures given by well-known experts in the field.
