Coupling of Boundary Element and Wave Based Methods for the efficient solution of bounded acoustic problems with inclusions

Book Contribution - Book Chapter Conference Contribution

This paper reports on the coupling of the Boundary Element Method (BEM) with the Wave Based Method (WBM) for the efficient solution of bounded acoustic problems with arbitrarily shaped inclusions. The main idea of the presented hybrid Boundary Element-Wave Based Method is to combine the best of the two worlds. The WBM is used for modeling bounded domains of moderate geometrical complexity, as such it provides a very efficient solution as compared to element based methods. The BEM is used for modeling arbitrarily shaped inclusions, as such the geometrical flexibility of the method is utilized. Therefore, the hybrid BE-WBM combines efficiency with versatility. A numerical example is presented, where the method is benchmarked against the Finite Element Method and the efficiency of the hybrid BE-WBM is demonstrated.
