String theory models of cosmological singularities (FWOTM614)

In this project, I will use string theory to try and develop an understanding of the laws of physics that govern cosmological singularities. Specically, I will further develop models based on two \holographic" descriptions of string theory, namely the AdS/CFT correspondence and matrix theory. Goals include making concrete statements on the physics just after the singularity in these models, on the possibility of time evolution through the singularity and eventually on the theoretical viability of cosmological models with a singular big crunch/big bang transition.
