Project

Coating of materials for Li-S batteries (R-9048)

This PhD project aims at development of innovative material solutions for improvement of Li-Sulphur batteries. The main advantage of this battery type is the high gravimetric energy density. Lightweight is important for transport and hence Li-S batteries are on the roadmaps for automotive and e-bike applications. An additional advantage is that no scarce, toxic and expensive metalsare used for the cathode but cheap and abundantly available sulfur. The PhD project is situated in the Sustainable Materials Department of VITO and will make use of unique expertise and technology developed there. It will be performed under supervision and in close collaboration with the Lab of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry at UHasselt.
