Triple Quadrupole GC/MS for highperformance metabolomics and fluxomics analysis in plantorgans

This application concerns the acquisition of a Triple Quadrupole GC/MS to extend the metabolomics and fluxomics activities of the consortium. Our research focusses on changes in the physiology and quality of fruits throughout the production chain, going from breeding, via horticulture and postharvest storage to commercialisation. Metabolic changes of the fruit metabolism (metabolomics) are central to this. A major part is dedicated to measuring metabolic fluxes (fluxomics) which requires highly sensitive equipment. The collected measurements will provide quantitative insights in the mechanisms underlying fruit development and senescence and the resistance against phytopathogens. This knowledge will be used to develop mathematical models for ‘in silico’ testing of hypotheses concerning the regulation of the fruits metabolism.
