Robot-assisted treatment of retinal vein occlusion. (STABLEYES)

Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO) is an eye condition which affects an estimated 16.4 million people worldwide. The disease occurs when clots are formed inside retinal veins and disturb the oxygen supply to the retina. It is the 2nd most common retinal vascular disorder and profoundly affects visual acuity. Current treatment methods only temporarily slow down vision loss by tempering the side effects. Within this project a promising curative treatment, retinal vein cannulation, is investigated. In close collaboration between mechanical engineers and mi crosurgeons robot-assisted treatment techniques are applied and improved.
