Project

From ancient musical scores to MIDI performances

Leuven's Alamire Foundation has a unique collection of original, handwritten scores by old music composer Peter Alamire to its disposal. The research will automatically read ancient music scores to detect and interpret the different symbols therein. This interpretation will have to make use of the rule sets that governed the period's musical language. It is to be noted that the automatic reading of the text lines (i.e. the lyrics of the four different voices) is not part of the task. Based on the automated interpretation of the scores, a MIDI execution of the music will be produced.
