Development and Assessment of iSTEM Competencies

Although the math and science education in Flanders is at a high level, the integration of these abstract study fields and the reference to their use in technology is a large gap in the educational system, which has the effect of demotivating pupils for science and engineering. The purpose of research for didactics of ‘integrated STEM-education’ (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) is to make youngsters recognize the importance of mathematical equations and scientific models for everyday problem solving in general, and for engineering in particular.
