Mobility of workers and pensioners and coordination of social protection in Europe.

The free movement of workers and citizens is becoming more and more important and has major implications for the use of social security systems, confronting national competent institutions, stakeholders, policy makers and citizens with increasing questions about their coverage, entitlements, not use and misuse. At the margin of the national systems of social protection, it reveals the wealth but also the complexity and sometimes the contradictions. Transparency is at the core of the effectiveness. During a series of recent studies HIVA observed this quest for transparency and empirical evidence on mobility, migration and the impact on the systems of social security. EZA, the European Centre for Workers Questions commissioned HIVA, with the support of the European Commission, to confront in a one day colloquium those studies with other recent European studies and with the reactions of national, Belgian, stakeholders and finally also the policy of the European Commission itself.
