Project

Development of an ICT-based application for the assessment of the functional and educational needs of children with a chronic disease.

To warrant children with a chronic disease equal access to professional life, optimal school participation in accordance with their cognitive abilities should be stimulated by meeting their educational and participation needs. The prevention of a handicap situation in education is not only based on a detailed analysis of functioning of the child in order to assess the individual participation needs in education, but also on a detailed analysis of external and personal factors that may inhibit or enhance the participation in mainstream education. The International Classification of Functioning-Children and Youth (ICF- CY) can offer a good frame to explore in a systematic way the childrens needs without confining to child features only. This needs-based assessment model (NBA) aims at translating relevant clinical assessment data into recommendations for intervention in the classroom. An ICT-application will be developed to support the pupil guidance centers in this NBA, according to the principles of ICF-CY.
