Project

Limburg Makes It ! (R-5455)

The aim of the project is, through the existing research institute for materials at UHasselt - IMO-IMOMEC- to create an Expertise Center "Limburg makes It" for the manufacturing industry in Limburg that provides a structural and intensive scientific technology support to these companies and to make an essential contribution to the innovation chain. In addition, such a center of expertise can lead to anchoring companies in the region and act as an attraction pool for new industrial activity. An important aspect of this initiative is to significantly strengthen the involvement of SMEs. Indeed, it can be clearly established that there is a large sub-participation of SMEs in support of the knowledge center. This approach should also lead to an increase in the participation of SMEs in particular and Limburg companies in general to the IWT programs. There is a particular need for company-driven research and support that proactively focuses on technological innovation in processes and applications. In addition, targeted answers should be formulated that are close to the market. An important step in this process is to determine the correct translation of the stated problem or challenge to practical implementation in an industrial framework, where it is important that the proposed approach is also implemented effectively so that immediate added value is realized.
