Project

Conservation agriculture to restore the environment (CARE).

The general objective of the project is to mitigate soil and water pollution in the agricultural production areas of the Highland Philippines and Tanzania. Specifically, the project will enhance capacities in adressing conservation agriculture problems at two fronts: first, at the level of the universities and how capacity at this level and at a joint level may be harnesses; and second, at the level of the communities that the universities serve. The project is aptly called Project CARE worded out as Conservation Agriculture for a Restored Environment. The project is expected to bring about workable protocol/s on conservation agriculture at the farm level. Demonstration farms will be established with farmer-co-operators showcasing research and development technologies of the universities. The local government units will be involved to institutionalize the interventions. At the end of the project, it is expected that: 1) soil and water quality of the farmlands had improved; 2) trained farmers has adopted conservation agriculture practices; 3) conservation agriculture has been integrated in community planning and policy processes, and more importantly; 4) a working collaboration model on conservation agriculture is developed between the collaborating universities.
