R&D 2022: Switching PixEls robotiCs adopTion REsearch (BRGRD68)

Switching Pixels™ are a new sensing category for ultra-low-latency, low-power and lowcomplexity 3D perception. The unique Switching Pixels characteristics are key enablers for breakthrough innovations in the safety case for (autonomous) Mobility and Robotics and immersion in professional (digital twins) and consumer AR.The first implementation of a Switching Pixels sensor, coined PERSEID, and related sensor validation platform has been created as part of the feasibility study 2020-FST-77. The objectives of this feasibility are being achieved as further detailed in section B1.1.The goal of this R&D project is to enable rapid adoption of the Switching Pixels technology by target users in the Robotics and Mobility market segments, by providing reference implementations for 3D system hardware and algorithms benefiting from intrinsic low latency and low power consumption. In this project, VoxelSensors and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) will collaborate to develop and validate a prototype 3D system, including software algorithms and applications to leverage the unique characteristics of the Switching Pixels in reference Robotics and Mobility applications and accelerate adoption in these markets.
