Real-Time Stereo Vision Hardware Architecture Suitable for Multiple Platforms Universiteit Hasselt
This paper presents a real-time stereo vision Systemon- Chip (SoC) architecture for a depth-field generation processor as required in 3D TV applications. This architecture is fully scalable and parameterizable to allow for custom SoC implementations, as well as rapid prototyping on FPGAs. An onchip memory block architecture is used that allows parallel access to all pixels located in a chosen window of the image. A real-time stereo matching ...
Comparing the HELCATS manual and automatic catalogues of CMEs using STEREO HI data KU Leuven
We present the results of a comparative study between automatic and manually-compiled coronal mass ejection (CME) catalogues based on observations from the Heliospheric Imagers (HIs) on-board NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) spacecraft. Using CACTus, CMEs are identified in HI data using an automatic feature detection algorithm, while the HICAT catalogue includes CMEs that are detected by visual inspection of HI images. ...
Robust stereo matching using Census cost, discontinuity-preserving disparity computation and view-consistent refinement Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Stereo matching has been one of the most active research topics in computer vision domain for many years resulting in a large number of techniques proposed in the literature. Nevertheless, improper combinations of available tools cannot fully utilize the advantages of each method and may even lower the performance of the stereo matching system. Moreover, stateof-the-art techniques are usually optimized to perform well on a certain input dataset. ...
Real-Time Edge-Sensitive Local Stereo Matching with Iterative Disparity Refinement Universiteit Hasselt
First, we present a novel cost aggregation method for stereo matching that uses two edge-sensitive shape-adaptive support windows per pixel region; one following the horizontal edges in the image, the other the vertical edges. Their combination defines the final aggregation window shape that closely follows all object edges and thereby achieves increased hypothesis confidence. Second, we present a novel iterative disparity refinement process and ...
Stream-Centric Stereo Matching and View Synthesis: A High-Speed Approach on GPUs Universiteit Hasselt KU Leuven
In this paper, we propose a real-time image-based rendering (IBR) system. It is specifically designed for photorealistic view synthesis at high-speed on the graphics processing unit (GPU). We steer the proposed IBR system design with two high-level ideas. First, for cost-effective IBR, as long as the synthesized views look visually plausible, the estimated disparity and occlusion need not be correct. Hence, we jointly optimize stereo matching ...
A Novel Hardware-Oriented Stereo Matching Algorithm and Its Architecture Design in FPGA Universiteit Hasselt
Stereo matching is a crucial step to extract depth information from stereo images. However, it is still challenging to achieve good performance in both speed and accuracy for various stereo vision applications. In this contribution, a hardware-compatible stereo matching algorithm is proposed and its associated hardware implementation is also presented. The proposed algorithm can produce high-quality disparity maps with the combined use of the ...

Accuracy and robustness evaluation in stereo matching Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Stereo matching has received a lot of attention from the computer vision community, thanks to its wide range of applications. Despite of the large variety of algorithms that have been proposed so far, it is not trivial to select suitable algorithms for the construction of practical systems. One of the main problems is that many algorithms lack sufficient robustness when employed in various operational conditions. This problem is due to the fact ...
