VCSELs with nematic and cholesteric liquid crystal overlays Universiteit Gent
We study theoretically the spectral and polarization threshold characteristics of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers with nematic and cholesteric liquid crystal overlay: LC-VCSELs. In the first case, we demonstrate the possibility of selecting between two orthogonal directions of linear polarization (LP) of the fundamental mode (x or y LP) by choosing appropriate NLC length and to achieve strong polarization discrimination: threshold gain ...

Discovery of novel DAPY-IAS hybrid derivatives as potential HIV-1 inhibitors using molecular hybridization based on crystallographic overlays KU Leuven
Crystallographic overlap studies and pharmacophoric analysis indicated that diarylpyrimidine (DAPY)-based HIV-1 NNRTIs showed a similar binding mode and pharmacophoric features as indolylarylsulfones (IASs), another class of potent NNRTIs. Thus, a novel series of DAPY-IAS hybrid derivatives were identified as newer NNRTIs using structure-based molecular hybridization. Some target compounds exhibited moderate activities against HIV-1 IIIB strain, ...
In-circuit fault tolerance for FPGAs using dynamic reconfiguration and virtual overlays Universiteit Gent
Reassuring fault tolerance in computing systems is an important problem in high-reliability applications. With the interest in commercial SRAM-based FPGAs in radiation environments, it is beneficial to provide runtime reconfigurable recovery from a failure. In this paper a virtual coarse-grained reconfigurable architecture is proposed, with an embedded on-demand fault-mitigation technique tailored for FPGA overlays. The proposed method performs ...
Discovery of 2-pyridone derivatives as potent HIV-1 NNRTIs using molecular hybridization based on crystallographic overlays KU Leuven
Based on crystallographic overlays of the known inhibitors TMC125 and R221239 complexed in RT, we designed a novel series of 4-phenoxy-6-(phenylamino)pyridin-2(1H)-one derivatives as HIV NNRTIs by molecular hybridization approach. The biological testing results indicated that 2-pyridone scaffold of these inhibitors was indispensable for their anti-HIV-1 activity, and substitution of halogen at the 3-position of the 2-pyridone ring would decrease ...
Communication Overlays and Agents for Dependable Smart Power Grids KU Leuven
Smart grids rely on a dependable information infrastructure for the monitoring and control applications. Two elements can enhance the suitability of the communication and control infrastructure for such smart grid applications. Overlay networks allow to resiliently deal with nodes that appear and disappear, as well as with the dynamic nature of the power values these nodes represent in a smart grid. Agents-based modelling allows to simulate the ...
A latency-aware algorithm for dynamic service placement in large-scale overlays Universiteit Antwerpen Universiteit Gent
A generic and self-managing service hosting infrastructure, provides a means to offer a large variety of services to users across the Internet. Such an infrastructure provides mechanisms to automatically allocate resources to services, discover the location of these services, and route client requests to a suitable service instance. In this paper we propose a dynamic and latency-aware algorithm for assigning resources to services. Additionally, ...
