Deformable microsystem for in situ cure degree monitoring of GFRP(Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic) Universiteit Gent
Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is becoming a valid alternative to many traditional heavy metal industries because of its high specific stiffness over the more classical construction metals. Recent trend of more complex geometry of composites is causing increasing difficulty in composite manufacturing. A method to optimize the manufacturing process is thus imposed to ensure and improve the quality of manufactured parts. Because of the irregular ...
An integrated microsystem for allele-specific PCR amplification of genomic DNA directly from human blood KU Leuven
A microsystem for single nucleotide polymorphism detection is demonstrated. The system incorporates two polymerase chain reaction chambers. The first reactor is designed to amplify genomic DNA directly from human blood. PCR amplification from blood can be performed in as little as 11 minutes. The DNA is then purified using an on-chip micropillar filter before entering the second PCR for allele-specific amplification. An electrochemical detector ...
Self-assembly of microsystem components with micrometer gluing pads through capillary forces Universiteit Hasselt
The self-alignment of microparts based on capillary forces and micrometer adhesive pads was evaluated through experimental evidence, analytical modelling and simulation. The local deposition of adhesive pads in the range of 2000 to 20 mu m was realized by photo-lithographical patterning of an acrylate adhesive interlayer, followed by the spontaneous assembly with glass counterfaces that have a complementary array of hydrophobically modified gold ...
An Ultra-Low-Power, Batteryless Microsystem for Wireless Sensor Networks KU Leuven
The capability to interact more ubiquitously with the surrounding physical world is a thriving force behind the widely ongoing research towards Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). These sensor nodes however need to be very power efficient and very low-cost in order to be realistic on a large scale and to be economically viable. This work presents an ultra-low power, fully integrated UMC 130 nm CMOS node which operates autonomously. Energy is ...
Protein Crystallization in Droplet-based Microsystems KU Leuven
The central focus of protein crystallization has been on the production of high quality (large well diffracting) protein crystals for protein structure determination by X-ray crystallography, being a complex and multiparametric process. The successful crystallization of a protein is determined both by thermodynamic and kinetic considerations, involving the optimization of several variables. In this context, the main goal of this work is to ...

Low-Temperature Packaging Methods as a Key Enablers for Microsystems Assembly and Integration KU Leuven
© 2018 IEEE. The paper reports on assembly and integration of MS (microsystems) into fully functional system. We show that among varieties of assembly techniques and methods commonly used for IC, some can be successfully used also for the assembly of microsystems. MS are specifically sensitive to thermal exposure that can occur during the assembly and integration process.
