Vele studenten verlaten het secundair of hoger onderwijs zonder een diploma te behalen. Een recent rapport (OECD, 2012) illustreert deze problemen: 16% van de jongeren in OESO landen behaalt geen diploma secundair onderwijs. 62% van de jongeren start aan het hoger onderwijs maar slechts 39% behaalt effectief een diploma.
