A rewarding framework for crowdsourcing to increase privacy awareness Universiteit Gent Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Digital applications typically describe their privacy policy in lengthy and vague documents (called PrPs), but these are rarely read by users, who remain unaware of privacy risks associated with the use of these digital applications. Thus, users need to become more aware of digital applications' policies and, thus, more confident about their choices. To raise privacy awareness, we implemented the CAP-A portal, a crowdsourcing platform which ...

Crowdsourcing Language Resources for Dutch using PYBOSSA: Case Studies on Blends, Neologisms and Language Variation Vrije Universiteit Brussel
In this paper, we evaluate PYBOSSA, an open-source crowdsourcing framework, by performing case studies on blends, neologisms andlanguage variation. We describe the procedural aspects of crowdsourcing, such as working with a crowdsourcing platform and reachingthe desired audience. Furthermore, we analyze the results, and show that crowdsourcing can shed new light on how language is used byspeakers.
Why gender and age prediction from tweets is hard : lessons from a crowdsourcing experiment Universiteit Gent
There is a growing interest in automatically predicting the gender and age of authors from texts. However, most research so far ignores that language use is related to the social identity of speak- ers, which may be different from their biological identity. In this paper, we combine insights from sociolinguistics with data collected through an online game, to underline the importance of approaching age and gender as social variables rather than ...
Smart ideas for smart cities: investigating crowdsourcing for generating and selecting ideas for ICT innovation in a City context Universiteit Gent
Within this article, the strengths and weaknesses of crowdsourcing for idea generation and idea selection in the context of smart city innovation are investigated. First, smart cities are defined next to similar but different concepts such as digital cities, intelligent cities or ubiquitous cities. It is argued that the smart city-concept is in fact a more user-centered evolution of the other city-concepts which seem to be more technological ...
Crowdsourcing of Pollution Data using Smartphones Vrije Universiteit Brussel
In this paper we present our research into participatory sensing based solutions for the collection of data on urban pollution and nuisance. In the past 2 years we have been involved in the NoiseTube project which explores a crowdsourcing approach to measuring and mapping urban noise pollution using smartphones. By involving the general public and using off-the-shelf smartphones as noise sensors, we seek to provide a low cost solution for ...
Crowdsourcing mobility insights: reflection of attitude based segments on high resolution mobility behaviour data Universiteit Gent
Crowdsourcing mobility insights Universiteit Gent
Crowdsourcing is changing the way mobility analyses are done. It provides big data streams of high spatio-temporal resolution, allowing advanced data analytics to be applied in order to capture mobility behavior and patterns. It enables us to learn from the data (e.g. to predict travel times or individualsU+2019 mobility decision making process) but also to build innovative applications on top of this data stream. This poster presents some ...
