Show Me How Langzaam: Het mobiliseren Bewijs uit Transport Onderzoek naar Speed Universiteit Gent

In medicine, it is often essential to know to what extent a person can understand speech. Current methods to measure speech understanding involve playing specially crafted sentences to the person, letting the person repeat them, and scoring the result manually. This requires active participation of the person, specialised speech material, and is labour intensive. We present a system to measure speech understanding fully automatically. We ...
Geïndividualiseerde en zelfaanpassende geluidsverwerking voor cochleaire implantaten. KU Leuven
Cochlear implants (CIs) are successful auditory prostheses that enable people with deafness to hear through electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve. In a CI sound processor, a sound signal is converted into a sequence of electrical pulses. This conversion entails many parameters that should ideally be fine-tuned (fitted) for every individual patient, to account for various anatomical and physiological differences. In current clinical ...

KU Leuven
The DREAMS Initial Training Network will investigate the problem of modeling, controlling, removing, and synthesizing acoustic reverberation with the aim of enhancing the quality and intelligibility of audio, music, and speech signals. The proposed research and training program builds upon four disciplines that are equally important in understanding and tackling the (de-)reverberation problem: room acoustics, signal processing, ...
The loss of inner hair cells in the cochlea causes deafness. Since the first trial of a cochlear implant in 1957, cochlear implants have been developed to the point where they can (re-)restore hearing and speech understanding in a large proportion of patients. Although spatial hearing is central to controlling and directing attention and to enabling speech understanding in noisy environments it has been largely neglected. In current implants, ...

Computer-assisted interpreting (CAI) covers the various ways in which digital technologies are used to assist interpreters before, during and after interpreting. The main challenge of CAI is to provide interpreters with online support while they are interpreting, focussing on known problem triggers in source texts, namely numbers and terms. Accuracy in the interpretations of numbers is known to be low and a support system is able to help ...
