Nonlinear pulse shaping in pulsed quantum dot lasers Vrije Universiteit Brussel
In this work we study the ffect of slow passage in the pulse-pumped dual-state-lasing quantum dot laser. During pulsed operation close to the excited-state threshold, the output pulse becomes unstable. After the rise stage, the output power sharply drops out. It is followd by instabilities that may appear after a significant delay.
The target material influence on the current pulse during high power pulsed magnetron sputtering Universiteit Gent
The current-time characteristic during high power pulsed magnetron sputtering is measured under identical conditions for seventeen different target materials. Based on physical processes such as gas rarefaction, ion-induced electron emission, and electron impact ionization, two test parameters were derived that significantly correlate with specific features of the current-time characteristic: (i) the peak current is correlated to the momentum ...
Pulse trawling : the impact of pulsed direct current on early life stages of sole Solea solea Universiteit Gent
Inter-day, inter-observer and intra-observer variability of arterial pulse wave velocity measurements using pulsed wave Doppler in healthy horses Universiteit Gent
Characterization of positive and negative pulses from a commercial RC based pulse generator in micro-EDM milling KU Leuven
Resistor-capacitor (RC) based pulse generators are commonly used in micro-EDM applications thanks to their ability to provide very low energy pulses to remove volume of material per spark. Tool wear however can still be significant, crucially affecting the machining accuracy. In this work, the characteristics of the discharging pulses with respect to a given set of machining conditions and pulse generator are studied. This research will enable ...
Atomistic simulation of ultra-short pulsed laser ablation of metals with single and double pulses Universiteit Antwerpen
The demand for higher throughput in the processing of materials with ultra-short pulsed lasers has motivated studies on the use of double pulses (DP). It has been observed in such studies that at relatively high time delays between the two pulses, the ablated volume is lower than that for a single pulse (SP). This has been attributed to the shielding of the second pulse and the re-deposition of the material removed by the first pulse. The ...
A qualitative and quantitative investigation of the uncracked and cracked condition of concrete beams using impulse excitation, acoustic emission, and ultrasonic pulse velocity techniques Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The Impulse Excitation Technique (IET) is a useful tool for characterizing the structural condition of concrete. Processing the obtained dynamic parameters (damping ratio, response frequency) as a function of response amplitude, clear and systematic differences appear between intact and cracked specimens, while factors like age and sustained load are also influential. Simultaneously, Acoustic Emission (AE) and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) ...
Measurement of pulse wave velocity, augmentation index, and central pulse pressure in atrial fibrillation: a proof of concept study. Universiteit Gent
Efficacy and cognitive side effects after brief pulse and ultrabrief pulse right unilateral electroconvulsive therapy for major depression: a randomised double blind controlled study KU Leuven
OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and cognitive side effects of high-dose unilateral brief pulse electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) with those of high-dose unilateral ultrabrief pulse ECT in the treatment of major depression. METHOD: From April 2007 until March 2011, we conducted a prospective, double-blind, randomized multicenter trial in 3 tertiary psychiatric hospitals. All patients with a depressive disorder according to DSM-IV criteria were ...
