Metallogenesis of the Kyaundji Cu-Zn-(Pb) prospect (Tenke Fungurume Mining, Democratic Republic of the Congo) Universiteit Gent
The epigenetic Kyaundji prospect located in the Tenke Fungurume Mining District is characterized by a Cu-Zn (Pb) vein-type mineralization and is present in the Neoproterozoic Kundelungu Group. Sulfides were precipitated along a fault zone related to the E-W extensional tectonic phase (arc parallel extension) and occur along bedding and in fractures which formed at a late stage of the Lufilian orogeny. Remobilization and enrichment of the ore ...
The geology of the Mufulira deposit : implications for the metallogenesis of arenite‐hosted ore deposits in the Central African copperbelt Universiteit Gent
Metallogenesis of the Nkana copper–cobalt South Orebody, Zambia KU Leuven
The Central African Copperbelt is one of the largest and richest metallogenic provinces in the world. Despite the many studies, the genesis of the stratiform Cu–Co-mineralization remains a subject of intense discussion. A diagenetic, pre-folding origin is proposed for most ore deposits both in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, later mineralization and/or remobilization seem to be important in the enrichment of the ores. The ...
The magmatic-hydrothermal transition in pegmatites and its effects on rare metal mineralization: insights from melt-crystal-fluid interactions in phosphate minerals from the Buranga dike (Rwanda) KU Leuven
This PhD project aims to understand the magmatic-hydrothermal differentiation process recorded at the Buranga pegmatite system (Gatumba District, Western Province, Rwanda). The Buranga dike is a type-example of a phosphorus- and boron-rich lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatite and well-known for its Ta-Sn-Nb mineralisation and its rich variety of primary and secondary phosphate minerals. The phosphate mineralogy records the magmatic, ...
Ta-Nb-Sn-W-Au mineralization in the Mesoproterozoic metasediments of the Karagwe-Ankole belt (Rwanda, DRC) and its relation to early Neoproterozoic orogeny and magmatism Universiteit Gent KU Leuven
A recent renewal of interest and research into Nb, Ta, Sn, W, Li and Au deposits of the Central African Mesoproterozoic Karagwe-Ankole belt (KAB) has led to new insights regarding its metallogenesis. This study provides an overview of the geodynamic framework of the KAB, including its magmatism and mineralization. During compressional deformation, barren quartz veins are intensely folded. A second quartz vein generation developed inside the fold ...
Evolution of Cu–Co mineralizing fluids at Nkana Mine, Central African Copperbelt, Zambia KU Leuven
The Central African Copperbelt hosts numerous world class stratiform Cu–Co deposits in the Neoproterozoic Katanga Supergroup (<880 to ± 500 Ma). These high grade deposits resulted from multiple mineralization and remobilization stages. The Nkana Cu–Co deposit in the Zambian part of the Copperbelt is such a stratiform deposit but the location of the rich ore bodies is structurally controlled, i.e. occurring in the hinge zones of tight to ...
