Impact of process parameters and gas atmospheres on density and microstructure of super duplex stainless steel produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion KU Leuven
Monitoring atmospheric corrosion under multi-droplet conditions by electrical resistance sensor measurement Vrije Universiteit Brussel
This paper presents a novel approach to investigate atmospheric corrosion kinetics of carbon steel under multi-droplet conditions. A homemade climate chamber has been developed to accurately control and monitor environmental conditions, including temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH), during exposure. Carbon steel corrosion kinetics are monitored with a custom-designed Electrical Resistance (ER) sensor pair. Savitzky-Golay (S-G) based ...
Atmospheric corrosion of iron under a single droplet Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Utilizing a dedicated micro-sized three-electrode cell, this study systematically investigates early-stage electrochemical properties and corrosion behavior of pure iron under single droplets. Various volumes and NaCl concentrations were considered during the evaporation-driven shape and concentration evolution of single droplets. The measurements disclosed that reducing the droplet size from 5 µL to 1.5 µL at 0.01 M NaCl concentration, ...
Exploring the potential of transfer learning in extrapolating accelerated corrosion test data for long-term atmospheric corrosion forecasting Vrije Universiteit Brussel
This study utilizes transfer learning (TL) to enhance long-term atmospheric corrosion predictions. Using a Fe/Cu galvanic-type sensor, we gathered data in a controlled SAE J2334 salt spray setting and transferred this to an uncontrolled outdoor environment. Among TL methods tested, freezing the initial layer and fine-tuning others at a lower rate was most effective. The approach excelled at forecasting outdoor corrosion behaviour using a ...

Study on the roles of bisulfite in the stress corrosion cracking of 7050-T7451 aluminum alloy in the thin electrolyte layer environment Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Effect of bisulfite (HSO3-) on the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of 7050-T7451 aluminum alloy in the thin electrolyte layer environment in the presence of Cl- is investigated. Addition of HSO3- inhibits the corrosion initiation but promotes the corrosion propagation and hydrogen uptake. With a quantitative calculation, the HSO3- is demonstrated to significantly facilitate the synergistic effect between stress, corrosion, and ...
The effect of pH on the corrosion protection of aluminum alloys in lithium-carbonate-containing NaCl solutions Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The corrosion inhibiting effect of lithium carbonate has been studied over the pH range relevant for atmospheric corrosion conditions at the polymer/metal interface. It is demonstrated that lithium carbonate offers optimum corrosion protection under moderately alkaline conditions attributed to the formation of a protective layer identified as aluminum-lithium layered double hydroxide. It is proposed that an active-to-passive transition occurs ...
