The hoard Zwartewaterland 2017 consisted mainly of so-called ‘plakken’, which were struck at Hasselt for the bishop of Utrecht, Frederick of Blankenheim. Combining data from both the hoard Zutphen 1958 and from accounts of the town of Deventer made it possible to date the encountered variant of this ‘plak’ and therefor establish the TPQ of Zwartewaterland 2017 to the year 1404.
In the course of time several golden guilders have been found at Herkenbosch, a village to the east of Roermond. The finds include a hoard of eleven pieces found in 1987. We present and analyse these coins, which must have been concealed in the years 1440-1445. During this period, the region suffered form skirmishes between Gelre and Jülich-Berg.
