Experimental data demonstrated that amyloid-like aggregation of proteins is induced by short amyloidogenic Aggregation Prone Regions (APRs) within a protein sequence. These APRs are able to self-assemble into β-sheets, resulting in the typical cross-β structured backbone of amyloids.
