Residual strain measurements during the curing cycle of composite materials using polarization properties of in-fibre bragg gratings

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

Due to the anisotropic and non-homogeneous nature of their components, the manufacturing process of composite materials may cause the appearance of significant residual strains and stresses during the curing cycle. We propose to follow the evolution of the polarization dependent loss peaks (amplitude and wavelength) of fibre Bragg gratings during the manufacturing of the composite material to highlight the residual strains appearance and also the shrinkage of the resin during polymerisation.
