Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

Imaging orofacial pain Oromaxillofacial pain is a frequently encountered problem in dental and oral maxillofacial practices with a high prevalence in the general population [1]. Orofacial pain was recently classified according to the international classification for orofacial pain (ICOP) [2]. As soon as patients present with orofacial pain, thorough clerking and clinical examination is indispensable and directs the clinician towards diagnosis. Pain can present unilateral or bilateral, continuous or episodic. Subsequent imaging is often necessary to make a differential diagnosis or to answer a specific clinical question. A number of modalities are available to meet this need. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of imaging techniques and their role in the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain.
