Model Order Reduction and Smart Virtual Sensing for Unbounded Vibro-Acoustics Using High Order FEM and Infinite Elements

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

Two key technologies that are at the heart of the Executable Digital Twins are Model Order Reduction and Smart Virtual Sensing (SVS). The former allows the high-fidelity models to be represented in compact forms and the latter is an on-line estimator framework which allows to extend the limits of physical sensors and provide full-field data using the simulation models. Previous work from the authors established a time-stable vibro-acoustic formulation and a Krylov-based reduction technique to create reduced order models (ROMs). The present work extends the methodology to high order FEM and to a new Infinite Element formulation called Flexible Infinite Elements (Flexible IFEM). With Flexible IFEM, it is possible to use general convex enclosures around the FEM. The paper will demonstrate reduction of the large models, the accuracy and performance gains as compared to conventional FEM and IFEM formulations and how these ROMs can be used in combination with a real-life SVS application case.
