Structuurbepaling van prokaryote ionenkanalen.

This research project is focused on the expression of voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels from bacteria. Production of these ion channels in E. coli provides the necessary amounts of protein required for structural studies. We will attempt to crystallize these channels and solve their 3-dimensional structure using X-ray crystallography. In parallel, we will study the functional properties of these channels expressed in Xenopus ooyctes with electrophysiological methods.
