Project

Integriteit in wetenschappelijk onderzoek

The responsible and ethical conduct of research is critical for achieving scientific excellence as well as for safeguarding
societal and public trust in the honest and accurate performance of scientific research. Misconduct jeopardizes the good
name of any institution and any practice. Inevitably, the way in which research misconduct is identified, policed and
corrected reflects the integrity of the whole enterprise of science. TINOS will open up new horizons in improving adherence
to high research integrity standards and in effect in increasing public trust in science and scientists; and boosting trust in
holders of research-related degrees should they pursue other community leader positions in politics and economics. The
project's ambitious outputs comprise three sets of tools: (1) an exhaustive database containing all definitions, governance/
regulatory approaches and the relevant institutional practices; 2) a code of conduct for funders and applicants that would
address the particularities of Horizon 2020 as a funding framework, and (3) a compliance and ethics follow-up tool that can
provide tangible benchmarks against which applications will be assessed by EU funders and their independent research
integrity panels. The goal of the TINOS Project is to identify new ways of promoting research integrity and of improving
adherence to high ethical and legal standards in research across Europe.
