Design optimization for power transformers using adjoint methodology.

* <(><<)>p>The PhD in engineering has the research topic: <(>&<)>ldquo;Thermal-Hydraulic Network Model Based Design of Power Transformer Windings<(>&<)>rdquo;.<(>&<)>uml; The PhD is in cooperation with transformer ma nufacturer CG Power systems.<(><<)>/p><(><<)>p>The goal of CG<(>&<)>uml; Power Systems is to develop a model for the t hermal evaluation of power transformers. Ther efore, the thermal project at CG Power System s starts from the model of Radakovic and Sor gic. The goal of this PhD is to improve the therma l-hydraulic model of the windings. It has to be ba sed on the physics, as accurate and reliable as po ssible for the calculation of winding te mperatures and temperature gradients, and with a p erformance necessary for a design tool. It ha s to be valid for the various windings and cooling <(>&<)>uml;arts used by CG Power Systems.<(><<)>br /><(><<)>br />The PhD research focuses on following key areas:<(><<)>br />- Assessment of accuracy: by theoretic al considerations and by comparing the results of THNM calculations on transformer windings wit h CFD simulations, the accuracy and capabilit ies of the THNM is assessed.<(><<)>br />- Assessmen t of hydraulic and thermal capabilities of th e THNM, by comparing with CFD simulation s of specific situations in windings.<(>= <<)>br />- Impro vement of the THNM: based on CFD simulations or an alytical set up, improving the modelling<(><<)>/p>
