Project

Characterising transmission parameters of SARS-CoV-2 in a peri-urban setting in Mozambique using population-based surveillance and a high-throughput sero-assay (AfriCover)

We will conduct population-based surveillance in a Demographic Health Surveillance System (HDSS) of 16,500 people in a peri-urban neighbourhood of Maputo, Mozambique. We will collect clinical information and respiratory specimens from ill persons during biweekly household visits and complement with data from local clinics. We will conduct -<100 investigations of households of confirmed cases and collect respiratory specimens and sera from contacts. We will further conduct a serosurvey of a random selection of 2400 persons (<18, 18-50y, 50+) at baseline, 3 s, 6 and 12 months. We will use established modelling approaches to estimate transmission parameters, and a custom-made model to examine how transmission changes with interventions.
