  • Gebruikers van onderzoeksexpertise:

Chiara has obtained her PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from the University of Copenhagen in 2017.

Currently she works at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium as a postdoctoral researcher in the Unit of Veterinary Helminthology.
She has a multidisciplinary profile with experience in epidemiology, disease burden, One Health; but her primary interests lie in research questions related to the prevention and control of zoonotic parasites, particularly by education and by developing and testing novel control tools.

During her PhD she conducted research within the field of burden and impact assessment of foodborne parasitic zoonoses. She has been working on models to estimate the societal cost of zoonotic diseases, which include both the health and economic impact in the analysis.
She also performed research on pig behaviour and welfare and on the pathogenesis of pigs with parasitic diseases.

Chiara has a strong interest in developing evidence-based control strategies for parasitic zoonoses, which are mainly found in low-income countries.
In all activities she tries to apply a One Health approach with the idea of working within an international network across sectors including all relevant disciplines.
