Recycling construction and demolition waste (CDW) through geopolymer technology

Boek - Dissertatie

CDW (Construction and Demolition Waste) is one of the main sources of waste in Europe, according to official data released by the European Union (EU). So far, recycled aggregates (which constitute the majority of CDW) are reused in low volume percentages for average compressive strength concretes and mostly as road subbase and back-fill material. The main problem needs to be account for this is the low performance of CDW products. How to improve the grade of CDW recycling is now a huge problem needs to be addressed. In this study, CDW is used for manufacturing geopolymer by using alkali-activated technology. Both macro-scale behaviors and micro-scale structure of CDW based geopolymer will be investigated. With high performance, CDW based geopolymer provides a method of improving the recycling grade of CDW.
