Op weg naar diversiteit op nieuwsredacties in de Lage Landen?

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

In recent years, waves of ownership consolidation have caused the media markets of the Netherlands and Flanders to increasingly grow alike ownership-wise, with the same two private corporations (DPG Media and Mediahuis) owning large sections of both news markets. In spite of this shift of the past years, scholarship has mostly neglected how this affects
differences and similarities in newsroom structures across Flanders and the Netherlands. In this paper, the authors use findings of 23 expert interviews to operationalize two dimensions of the Media for Democracy Monitor 2021 and shine light on media professionals’ viewpoints on gender equality and internal pluralism in contemporary newsrooms of the Low Countries. One of their key findings is that diversity as a multi-faceted construct is increasingly becoming a much-debated topic in said newsrooms.
