Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

Tuberculous meningitis is a serious complication of tuberculosis (TB). Although it is a relatively rare complication, occurring only in about 1% of all proven TB cases, it accounts for a considerable amount of the TB associated morbidity and mortality. This article reports a clinical case of a 31-year-old man of Iraqi origin, who presented at the emergency department with symptoms of general weakness, hemoptysis and headache. During hospitalization he developed an acute right hemiparesis, sensorial aphasia and a tonic clonic insult. The diagnosis of reactivation TB, complicated by TB meningitis was made. The main discussion of this article will be the current diagnostic process and treatment as well as the complications of tuberculous meningitis.
