De zieke retoriek van IS

Within massive publications on ISIL propaganda, the logic and power of metaphors are underexplored. This study analyzes the official textual media output of ISIL in English and Arabic in four 1-week periods, each starting after a landmark event in its history with approximately one-year intervals (2014-2017). The analysis of propaganda items in the periods that could be defined as moments of “glory”, “victory”, “loss”, and finally “collapse” has resulted in the population of a dataset of 699 metaphors invoked by ISIL mediamen to construct meaning.
