Structural characteristics of a forestry facies at Cynometra pedicellata De Wild. and Pterocarpus soyauxii Taub. on the Loufézou island in the Plateau of Cataracts (Congo Republic)

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

The general aim of this study is the knowledge of the phytodiversity of the forestry island of the Congo River, Loufézou, in order of a protective management. The adopted methodology is the one of the vegetation structural marks, concerning the dendrometrical measurements of all the individuals with a DBH > 10 cm. From eight statements covering an area of 0.5 ha, the forestry facies achieves presents a basal area of 37 m2/ha. This floristic basic of 19 species, achieved by 372 individuals, is dominated by the Fabaceae. The diversity indexes of Shannon & Weaver and of Piélou are respectively of 1.39 and 0.47 bits. Cynometra pedicellata De Wild. and Pterocarpus soyauxii Taub., are the two species which impose the structural large-scale,, reaching the most highest values in importance value indexes, with respectively 145.5 and 28.9 %. These data complete and refine the knowledge of this insular phytodiversity, essential basis in order to elaborate management plans in view of a lasting management.
