Treading the tightrope

Boek - Dissertatie

Ondertitel:towards a deeper understanding of completing self-report questionnaires on student learning and its related data quality
Self-report questionnaires are an often-used instrument in high schools and universities to assess students’ learning strategies. However, since the validity and reliability of these questionnaires are often contested, some researchers urge stepping away from them and moving towards other means to deepen our understanding of students’ learning strategies. Though, rather than directly moving away from self-report questionnaires, more research is needed into what these measures can and cannot tell us. Like walking a tightrope, conducting research requires treading carefully. This dissertation, which is situated at the intersection of student learning and survey methodology, is no different. To fill existing knowledge gaps, this dissertation aims to examine the process of completing self-report questionnaires on student learning and how that process affects data quality.
