False rifampicin resistance of Xpert MTB/RIF with paucibacillary samples in Damien Foundation Bangladesh projects
Main objective:
To determine the occurrence and frequency of rifampicin (RIF) false resistant (FR) Xpert Classic results from very low bacillary load specimens in the DF Bangladesh setting.
Specific objectives
1. To determine the effectiveness and incremental yield of 3 rather than one single repeat Xpert from different sputum specimens for confirmation of the true nature of a doubtful Xpert RIF resistant (RR) result
2. To determine the frequency of heteroresistance as the cause of RIF discordant results on one repeat test
3. Provided that ULTRA tests are already possible in the DF project, to confirm that this RIF FR problem with paucibacillary specimens does not occur with Ultra
